We prescribe a mild sedative for you to take two hours prior to your treatment. (For this reason, you must have someone drive you to and from the clinic on your procedure day.) Once your procedure is finished, the doctor will want you to walk for 20 minutes on a treadmill at the clinic, after which he will give you some final instructions and discharge you from the clinic.
You must bring compression stockings with you to the clinic. You will need to wear two stockings on the treated leg for the first 48 hours after treatment, after which you may remove the stockings long enough to shower. You will then wear a single stocking on the treated leg for the next two weeks, during which time you may remove it to shower.
Flying is not advised for one week after the procedure, and you should refrain from vigorous gym exercise, weight lifting, or running for 72 hours. However the doctor encourages you to walk at least 20 minutes every several hours during the day in the two weeks following your procedure.
It is best not to drink alcoholic beverages or smoke for two days before and two days after your treatment, since that could impair the healing process.
You will be scheduled for follow-up ultrasounds one week after your treatment, then again at one month and six months to monitor your response to the procedure and ensure your leg is perfectly healthy. Dr. Johnson will be closely involved in your follow-up.
